Born in Williamstown Victoria, I was surrounded by great family and friends. I never knew that martial arts would eventually play a big part of my life. I began training at the early age of 5 and my teacher was my father, John Beckman. Dad is now an 9th Dan and the Owner/Head Instructor of Senjutsu Ryu Ju-Jitsu. Dad opened his school in August 1982 with 20 of his friends as students. 40 years later he has a full time school dedicated to teaching adults and kids.

I would eventually leave my home town to join the military in 2004. I spent my time in the Army on operations and deployments  which took me to some incredible places. Ju-Jitsu gave me a great foundation to prepare for the challenges I faced in the military. Ju-Jitsu gave me mental toughness, confidence, structure, discipline, courage, resilience, situational awareness and the ability to think fast and react faster.

Ju-jitsu can not be taught in one day and you wont earn your black belt overnight. Time in the art, patience and hard work will put you in a good position in life and give you great balance. A belt can mean many things to different people, but I believe it is recognition of all these great qualities that we display in the dojo and in all aspects of life. The hardest part of training in Ju-Jitsu is taking that first step and training in your first session. We progressively teach you and build your understanding of Ju-Jitsu to give you tools that will aid you in a difficult situation.

I am also a qualified instructor and registered with Australian Ju-Jitsu Association.
